Covid-19 Increasing Food Insecurity in The Syrian Arab Republic

Food security challenges in Syria have been further exacerbated since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, adding more pressure on the country’s stability. Syria is currently witnessing an unprecedented currency devaluation that is skyrocketing food prices and diminishing Syrian household’s purchasing capacity. The alarming increase in the price of agriculture inputs, fertilizers and oil, and the newly imposed sanctions on Syria, raise concerns about future food shortages. This article suggests some policy recommendations to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on food security in Syria.
